Community
Based Childcare for Primary School Children
Background information
SPOSCI is a non-profit, community based child care centre
for primary school aged children. SPOSCI is situated
in the old headmaster’s cottage in the grounds of the South Perth
Primary School, and has operated in this location since 1982.
SPOSCI is an approved child care facility and most families
are eligible for Child Care Management System (CCMS) by providing their
CRN numbers.
Philosophy
SPOSCI recognizes and supports the community need for quality child care
for primary school aged children. Our Aim is to work in partnership with
families to foster the development of each child. We provides opportunities
and experiences appropriate for primary school aged children to practice
and develop their physical, cognitive, creative and social skills in an
informal, supervised environment. We value the need for children of this
age to exercise their independence so we promote decision making, cooperation
and self help skills. Our service embraces and celebrates the diversity
of the wider community which is reflected in our program. SPOSCI is a
special place that children can call their own.
Management and Staffing
SPOSCI has a community based management committee, which
is made up of parents/guardians and interested community members. All
parents/guardians have the opportunity to take up positions on the committee,
which meets once a month at the centre.
Staff
SPOSCI employs a Coordinator to run the centre, an Assistant
to the Coordinator, and several permanent and casual Carers. SPOSCI
staff are require a working with children check, hold a police clearance,
current first aid qualifications and attend other relevant training. Staff
ratios of qualified (Q) and unqualified carers are maintained in accordance
with State Licensing regulations.
